During my time spent in Toulouse, I started playing live piano, keys and backing vocals with French Indie Rock trio, I Me Mine. The band, consists of French bassist & vocalist Fred Shang. French-Kiwi guitarist and singer Sam Deverell and drummer Guillaume Thiburs. All three of them are professional musicians and had built an impressive history of live performances and releases together.
I Me Mine
During a 12 year career, I Me Mine have put out three superb original albums and performed nearly 1000 gigs. Although I came into the fold after the third of those albums, Tsu Na Mi it has been a pleasure to play with them onstage for the last 2+ years. It was extremely enjoyable to play full time keyboards rather than guitar and gave me reason to play lots of cool Rhodes and Wurlitzer type sounds on my Crumar Seven electric piano during the shows.
Live Sessions
Across two full days in 2023 we recorded four of the new songs taken from the then, forthcoming album at Studio Capitole, Toulouse. In late 2024 the band released four videos on their YouTube channel, all filmed at this live session. All four of the songs are shown below.
On the day, I played a beautiful grand piano on ‘Souvenirs From Mars’ and a Fender Rhodes Mark 1 on the other three songs.
With all three full time members singing onstage, the band features a lot of onstage backing vocals. As a singer myself, I was happy to contribute to this with some additional harmonies while sat at the piano and being part of some cool four-part harmonies onstage in France, Switzerland and the UK was a real thrill at times.
